Divya Jyoti Hydropower Pvt. Ltd., established on February 21, 2008, is a privately owned hydropower company based in Lalitpur, Nepal. The company is notably recognized for holding the license to develop the Marsyangdi Besi Hydropower Project, a 50 MW run-of-river plant located near Besisahar Municipality. The project is designed to generate an estimated 321.15 GWh of electricity annually, utilizing two 25 MW Francis turbines, with infrastructure including a 6.65 m tunnel, a 315 m penstock, and a semi-underground powerhouse. Electricity from the project will be transmitted to a nearby substation in Udipur, around 5 km from the powerhouse. Recently, API Power Company Limited approved the acquisition of Divya Jyoti Hydropower, signaling a move to advance the Marsyangdi Besi project. This development comes at a time when Nepal’s Ministry of Energy is actively reviewing non-operational hydropower licenses and pushing for progress in the sector, aligning with the country’s broader goal of producing up to 28 GW of electricity within the next decade for domestic use and export, particularly to India and Bangladesh.
